Bert Surgery Update

Note From My Vickie:

First let me tell you how amazing all of you are for all your well wishes.  I am simply amazed at how many of you have made comments expressing your love and concern.

Thank you all so much.

Now for Bert:

The doctor told me tonight when I left the hospital, that Bert would not be out of the woods for another 72 hours.  The surgery was more involved than he had imagined it would be as he had to cut Bert's stomach in three different places to get all the chunks out.

The one that concerned him most was a large piece that was starting to move back up the esophagus.  The concern being suffocation.  The other two were in two different locations in the stomach.

I am just so great ful that I saw him swallow part of the ball.  If I hadn't, it is very likely he would have suffocated within a few hours.

At this time, can I just tell all of you who are going thru your own struggles with your k-9 children...I understand a little bit more today than I did yesterday and my heart hurts for you.

AND Power of the Paw is as much a blessing to the little ill ones as it is for those who love them.

Thank you
Vickie

From the mom - Team Beaglebratz is a new follower - me, Shiloh'n Shasta. We are all sending prayers and power of the paw and healing vibes to Bert and to you. I know you will not breath a really good sigh of relief until those 72 hours are over - I know I wouldn't but after the past couple of years I've had (personally not my dogs) I'm learning to celebrate those smaller, daily things like Bert being out of surgery and doing good so far. Of course it is easier said than done that/ why I'm still learning. Bert looks like such a sweetie and a good snuggle-buddy, give him an extra hug and kiss from me.

Oh no, Bert. I looked away from my computer for the day, and you got in all sorts of trouble.

Every paw and every finger is crossed for you here in Colorado. Our K had to have similar surgery after she ate the entire backbone (all of the vertebrae) of a deer that had been killed by a mountain lion. She survived, despite the vets having to open her entire GI tract (stomach and intestines). You are are so strong, Bert, that I feel a huge amount of faith that you'll come through this as strong as ever.

We'll be sending you the Power of the Paw continuously, my friend.

Well Bert, my best buddy. your friends need to know this is not your fault. Our wolf instincts clearly tell us to gulp our stuff down fast to keep the other wild things (like your Vickie) from taking it away from us. Why just a month or so ago I gulped a whole mouse 'cause I was scared my mom was going to take it away. I guess now that we are domesticated (whatever that means) we need to be a little more thoughtful before we gulp. I love you buddy, but know you will be back strong as ever to romp, swim and play with us. Hang tough! I miss you already!

And very grateful the ball didn't stick in your esophagus on the way down. Sure hope you're feeling better. Be sure to add tennis balls to your 'dietary restrictions' list.
